Ebola: When is it Okay to be Scared?
I’ve been discussing this outbreak with my brother since the summer and when it hit Dallas we knew it was only a matter of time before it began to “show up” elsewhere.
If there’s one things humans can be counted on is to act in their own self-interest, and most never assume the worst about themselves. Therefore, even if a person was more likely than the average person to have come in contact with a highly infectious disease, chances are they’re going to assume that either they will be the exception to the rule in transmission, OR they don’t care enough about the potential fall out from their actions in their pursuit to see “loved ones” in their final days. So it comes as no surprise that someone left an active Ebola zone and travelled back to the states carrying the disease.
Knowing it was “out there” kept me from large gatherings of people, such as the State Fair. Why risk it?
Basically, we’re all screwed…
