Summer is coming…
I have been on a movie binge of late. Maybe I am shaking the dust off and getting back to the movies after the long sabbatical at home? Last night we went to the opening of Iron Man. I enjoyed it, but the kids loved it even more. My youngest son couldn’t keep himself from clapping anytime Iron Man demolished something or looked to be ready to triumph over the bad guys.
I love going to the movies, and at least now, it seems that my children are at an age where I can take them at least to PG-13 movies (my oldest is now 13) and sit next to the younger two in case I need to explain something or soothe any concerns. So far we have seen Nim’s Island, and The Forbidden Kingdom (which inspired them to practice their Taekwondo as soon as we got back in the house).
There is a local place here called Cinema Cafe where you can watch your movie and eat food at the same time! Genius! The kids love it, I love it because I can nibble on something other than just stale popcorn and sip something different besides overpriced sodas. So we usually go there. One nearby runs the more current movies, and there is another that runs older films. We saw National Treasure 2 there, another film I really enjoyed (I don’t care how formulaic they are, I still enjoy the idea of history as an exciting chase).
I have to form a list of movie opening dates to plan around (I love the excitement of seeing a movie when it first comes out!) and get the kids excited about. Next on the list are Speed Racer and Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. It’s hard to get excited about movies when your kids are really little, they get antsy, they always have to go potty right when the movie is getting good, and they want to talk. But, I will say that the combo of 13, 8 and 6 makes for interesting movie watching. I can watch it now and manage to make it through an entire movie without any major interruptions. Perhaps this too is a factor in my return to the summer movie routine.
