How to Solve IKEA SYMFONISK Speaker Not Found

Having Trouble with SYMFONISK Set Up?

If you have been having trouble setting up your IKEA SYMFONISK Speaker then this post is for you. I have personally been obsessing over the IKEA SYMFONISK speaker since the line was released.

Just the other day, I walked into my local IKEA and there was a speaker in the AS IS section. It was marked down for clearance from the brand-new price tag, so I gave in and bought it. A SONOS speaker for less than $100? Yes, please.

WiFi Speaker vs Bluetooth Speaker

Inside scoop is that the #1 reason these speakers get returned to the store is that people are not aware that they are WiFi speakers. It seems that people buy them thinking they can pair to Bluetooth, the same way the IKEA ENEBY speakers do, but they don’t.

#2 reason for the return is they don’t realize that you need a home WiFi network in order to connect to the speaker.

You can watch this video to see if a WiFi speaker is a solution for you.

IKEA SYMFONISK Set Up with the SONOS app

So I get my speaker home, open the box, confirm all the parts are inside (it’s just like new!) and download the SONOS app. I open the app and begin setting it up, only to get an error message on the screen: “Speaker Not Found” and my options are to Try Again, or Cancel.

Well, I am not giving up! There is always a solution. Since I purchased this speaker from As-Is, therefore possibly already used, it turns out it just needs to be reset. Let me save you the trouble of hunting down the instructions because I figured out how to reset the IKEA SYMFONISK speaker and want to share the steps with you here:

How to fix “Speaker Not Found” error for a used IKEA Speaker:

STEP 1:

Unplug the Power Cord

STEP 2:

Press and hold down the PLAY button at the same time that you plug the power cord back in.

(This part requires a little bit of coordination so best to do this near the plug if you plan on installing it somewhere like the wall, or on a high shelf when you are done…)

STEP 3:

Continue holding down the PLAY button until the light on the front flashes orange and white

Takes about 20 seconds (some patience required) – DO NOT LET GO!

STEP 4:

The light will flash GREEN when the speaker is reset and it is ready for setup!

That’s it!

If you completed the steps correctly, the light will remain green on the front of the SYMFONISK speaker, then go back into the setup on the SONOS app (see slideshow):
