Its not easy being mean
My So Called Life

It’s not easy being mean…

Money is statistically at the root of most marriages that end in divorce. Irreconcilable differences is the other most noted reason cited in the dissolution of marriages. What do we have in our backlog of marital wars? We fight about the kids. More specifically we fight about one kid. His kid. My stepson.

How do I know this? Because since he’s been at his mother’s for the Christmas holiday we have not had one fight, discussion or heated argument about anything our two younger children have done, said or possibly could  have been responsible for. It has been complete bliss since my stepson’s departure and I sadly dread his return.  Over a week and no fights. Even had a visit from my mother and we survived that unscathed.

I write this because his return is imminent. Like the ending of a vacation, I return to reality with the landing of the airplane delivering him and his baggage back into our lives. Which means that my regular mommy hat gets replaced with the hat I wear most often (albeit reluctantly): The evil stepmother hat.

Ugh… it’s not easy being mean.
