See What Happened Was…and Other Nap Time Adventures
Why is the testing center closed on Sundays? Bogus! See, this is why I end up not trusting people. I specifically asked a friend who went to the testing center on Friday to find out what hours they were open over the weekend. I got her text saying Saturday and Sunday, and I even asked for verification! I don’t think I will ask her for help again.
I’m thinking how hard it can be? She’s right there, and she would text me the info. A little part of me kept saying that I should research it myself. I shushed it, saying give ’em a chance! Besides, I was in such a cluttered mental state that I would think of something and if I didn’t act on it immediately, hours would pass, and I’d forget cause I was busy doing something else.

Yes, it was annoying to have driven all the way to campus just to discover that the testing center was locked tighter than a bank and NOTHING was open. But at least I had something else to do. I dropped off my boxes in storage, got gas, and stopped at Aldi’s to get some items I’d forgotten when out shopping Saturday. It would have been nice to have the test done and over with, but there was nothing I could do but wait and take it on Monday morning.
I was buzzing on a caffeine high and should have realized I’d crash without a sustained supply to my bloodstream. I see now that it was no surprise that I was falling asleep at my computer, trying to finalize paper number four when I got back from my morning jaunt to campus and back. My son was staring at me, nodding away in the living room, so I figured I’d take a quick nap and continue when my head wasn’t full of cobwebs.
Oops. Next thing I know, my younger son is turning my lamp on in my bedroom because it was dark. And I’m just waking up! I wasn’t supposed to sleep for that long! My alarm didn’t even wake me up. Sure, I felt better, but I lost 5 hours in the process. Guess I won’t be doing laundry tonight.
My head was clearer, and I finished two hours later what my tired mind had attempted labor over for several hours without completion.
Lesson learned: Sleep deprivation reduces effectiveness. At some point, critical thinking skills are lost, and time will be wasted.
Second lesson learned: tell children to wake me up next time I take a nap. Their slightest movement wakes me out of a sound sleep better than any alarm, apparently. Hehe.
