Thoughts and Ponderings

The Bentleys, the Hummers, the Benz

Bentleys, the Hummers, the Benz…I feel like I am in a rapper’s paradise.

I drive around on streets filled with BMW’s, Range Rovers, Infinitis, Audis and Acuras. It boggles the mind.

Pulling into a parking lot anywhere around this town is like driving on the lot of a European Car dealership. There’s a definite preference for the foreign car; Hondas and Toyotas are the “economy” vehicles I see driving around. I am an anomaly in my super-sized American SUV. The only SUV-esque vehicles I see around here are the faux-suv versions put out by Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and Acura.

From what I see, the domestic car gets no love in South Jersey. Least not around these parts.

I thought the economy was bad? Exactly how is it they afford all these expensive cars? Are they leased (cause that’s hella foolish) or do they trade up every other year (car note for life baby!)? Who knows… I hope their homes are as fabulous as their cars. But perhaps not. I too often see the late-model BMW pulling into the driveway of a house that isn’t as sparkly as the cars it houses, and it parks behind another late-model BMW. I just have to shake my head and keep driving. Maybe I’m idealistic, but I’d rather my house looked better than my vehicle. I don’t live in my car, after all.

Maybe they’re just trying hard to keep up with the Jones’s? If the Jones’s are doctors, lawyers and executives, it’s going to be hard to keep up, and there’s a lot of doctors, lawyers and executives around here. Just saying…

What's on your mind? Shout it out!
